Introduction on GSTR 1

One of the most common questions that everyone is asking these days is — “In which format should GST returns be uploaded”. Well, to make the tax filing procedure easier and hassle-free, GSTN has unveiled an excel template which will help taxpayers to carry out unproblematic offline data entry prior to uploading on the official GST portal. GSTR 1 Excel Format template accompanied by an offline tool is intended to make the uploading of large numbers of tax return details and invoices quicker and easier.

GSTR 1 Excel Sheet

GSTR 1 is a monthly return that is mandatory to be filed by every GST registered merchant and dealer. It includes complete details of the outer supplies of a business including sales. GSTR 1 Excel Format or template is intended to help the taxpayers in arranging and filing GSTR 1 monthly tax returns with maximum simplicity and minimal expenses. The GSTR 1 excel template is an initiative of GST Council’s to make the tax observance easier and convenient for the taxpayers. Moreover, it is also designed to reduce the time consumption during the time of compliance and to improve easiness of tax filing.

Format of GSTR1 Excel Sheet

This excel sheet consists of 15 points which are mandatory to be filled correctly by the taxpayers. The points to be filled are:

1) GSTIN
2) Taxable Person Name
3) Aggregate Turnover of Previous FY
4) Period
5) Taxable Outward Supplies
6) Details of Outward Supplies
7) Receiver Details of Taxable Outward Supplies
8) Details of consumer who received outward supplies in earlier tax periods
9) Details of Credit/Debit Notes
10) Nil rated, Exempted and Non-GST outward supplies
11) Supplies Exported (including deemed exports)
12) Tax liability of Time of Supply without Invoice
13) Already Paid Tax
14) Supplies made through e-commerce portals of other agencies
15) Invoice details issued during the tax period

How to Download GSTR Excel Format?

This excel manual template is available for free download on the GST Common portal i.e. www.gst.gov.in. It can be used by every registered taxpayer for collecting and maintaining all invoice related information on a regular basis. The excel template consists of eight worksheets. The outline of key values in each spreadsheet has been given at the top of the sheet for helping taxpayers to easily reconcile the data input in the worksheets with the recorded data in the accounting books. Following the data entered in the Excel template, the bundled offline tool will set up a file which the taxpayers need to upload on GST Portal for creating GSTR-1. While uploading this file on the GST portal, taxpayers need to have active internet connectivity.
